Anyone who has read the City by David Macaulay can you help please? Will Medal In City, why does the author describe how slaves contribute to building Verbonia? A. to suggest that Roman city builders were not skilled B. to entertain readers with invented details about Roman city building C. to make readers admire Roman city builders D. to honestly depict how Roman cities were built I'm pretty sure it's B but I want to make sure.
oh wow is it about ancient rome???????????????
Well, to begin with, all people were not treated equally in ancient Rome. There was a lot of Plutocracy and not much meritocracy going around.
Yes actually. :D
I LOVE ANCIENT ROME!
Lets go through each option because I love talking about Rome.
Alright. :D
to suggest that Roman city builders were not skilled. Well first of all, Roman builders were incredibly skilled! regardless of their background, even (or should i say especially) their armies were skilled.
i was in the army so i got taught a lot about ancient warefare but i know a lot because i love the subject anyways
like how Caesar defeated a joint Germanian force many times his number by building fortifications and how every night a legion stoped marching they built a redoubt
anyway my point is aqueducts and the eternal city could not have been built by unskilled plebians so A is false
to entertain readers with invented details about Roman city building this is possible, it depends, what sort of a book is it? a novel? a history? i so want to read it any which way!
to make readers admire Roman city builders again, this is possible but it is unlikely anyone will admire "slave" construction and not the finery and elaborate intricasy of architecture instead
to honestly depict how Roman cities were built now every modern historian has difficulty with "honestly" depicting ancient affairs but this may be the case, like i said what kind of a book?
is it written from a romans perspective?? or that of, say, a Carthaginian ?
Ah haha interesting. :D Well I'm glad to see you're so fascinated about the subject in particular and certain important achievements of ancient history and I figured that haha. And it's basically a more history and story type of book but at the same time it tries to have an upbeat interesting hook to it. It tells the certain key details and events that happened in Ancient Rome and it describes things.
i would say that it should be D, is possibly C and shoould not be B of cause it isnt A
Well Romans perspective I guess and I was thinking that also. I'll go with that thanks :D
wow bro you gotta send me this book :D to australia lol
Haha wish I could it's pretty good the better thing is it has pictures showing in detail actual Roman events. XD So yeah it's very cool and hooks you on. ^^
lol
XD haha cool can I ask you another question? If it's not a burden that is do you have experience reading or hearing about the building of Verbonia?
ROME 2 TOTAL WAR :D
XD
Augusta Verbonia?
Yes! :D
the ficticious city
meant to resemble an average city of roman control
i know a little and yeah sure i dont mind lol i am meant to be doing essays but yolo
i will do them later
Huh oh no if it's a burden you don't have to you can go back to working. Sorry. D:
