Two friends left school at the same time and drove in opposite directions. One friend averages 40 miles per hour and the other friend averages 35 miles per hour. When will they be 150 miles apart? How do I solve this?

OpenStudy (jack1):

speed at which theyré moving apart = 40 + 35 ... = 75 mph... right? |dw:1408977347737:dw|

OpenStudy (jack1):

so its the same time if one was stationary, and one was travelling at 75 mph... yeah? |dw:1408977469454:dw|

OpenStudy (jack1):

so how long does it take to cover 150 miles, if you're travelling at 75 mph...? @mroach ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 hours

perfect
