The three Math Idol judges have been eliminating contestants all day! The number of one-step equations and two-step equations who have been eliminated today is equal to 1120. If three times the number of one-step equations minus twice the number of two-step equations is equal to 1300, how many two-step equations auditioned today? I tried this but I don't know if its right, someone help please (:
Assume that x = single step, y = double step operations. x + y = 1120 3x - 2y = 1300 x = 1120 - y 3360-3y -2y = 1300 -5y = -2060 y = 412 x + 412 = 1120 x = 708 So you have 708 double step operations and 412 single step operations. This is what I had. Correct or nah?

Thanks. Was I right
looks good to me, so long as your computations are correct, you have the right steps
but, wait
remember what x= and y= you mixed them up
Oh okay...
why sad? you did the problem correctly, you just muffed up the end wording. It happens to all of us
Not sad, thank you for the help!(:
ok, good. Don't be discouraged, if I was your teacher and I saw that work, I'd probably take off like 1/2 a pt for wording, but everything else was perfect.
i haven't seen this question in a month
Well you just seen it again.. :o
