9. Every day during January, Joshua ran two miles. Let x represent the date in January and f(x) represent the total number of miles Joshua had run by the end of that date. f(1) = _____
Any ideas?
i thought that it was f(1) = 2x
f(1) is a particular number, 2x is a variable expression.
f(1) means how many miles has he run after 1 day.
so it would be 2? if f(x) = the total number of miles Joshua had ran by the end of that date.
Yes, f(1) = 2 miles.
ok so there was no equation involved then?
Correct.
ah Ok so that maybe the same for the others thank you :)
thanks for asking
I am not 100% sure but I think they may be expecting the following: From " Let x represent the date in January and f(x) represent the total number of miles Joshua had run by the end of that date." we can conclude: f(x) = 2x Then, f(1) = 2 * 1 = 2.
that came to mind it is supposed to be a function
I forgot to include: "Every day during January, Joshua ran two miles."
Look at what the question asks for: f(1) = _____
f(2) = 4 f(3) = 6 f(4) = 8
so it would have to be f(2) = 2 x in order for f(2) = 4
just as if it was f(x) = 2 x
