what is imagery

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Imagery is using figurative language to represent something that appeals to our senses (hearing, sight, smell, taste, feel). Words like dark, soft, sweet, and shout are all examples of imagery when used in a sentence ( The cat was very soft).

The use of words by the writer that evoke senses while reading... the way in writing that can make us feel and almost experience what the writer is using to portray with their words, vivid descriptions, 'imagery'. Almost like painting the words to a canvas so that we can imagine what it may look, seem, or even feel like.
