6/8=x/500 what is x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply both sides by 500: 500*(6/8) = x 3000/8 = x 8 = 2*2*2 so: 1500/4 = x 750/2 = x 375 = x

i am only in middle school sorry about that

No problem! Glad to help :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why do u multiply each sides by 500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought u divide 500 by 8 and then multiply by that num

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x is divided by 500 originally, so since you want to solve for x, you need to get it by itself on one side. To do that, you have to undo what is done to it originally. Multiplication 'undoes' division, so multiplying lets you take the /500 away, leaving x alone. After that, it's just arithmetic.
