How can -3 x 5 be used in a real world problem?

You have 15 dollars to spend on ice cream, 1 ice cream costs 3 dollars, how many ice creams can you have? 5 because -3 for each ice cream you purchase x 5 since you purchased 5 ice creams, and so you get -15 and you have $15 dollars so you go home with nothing. Then when you come home your mom asks how much money do you have in your pocket? And you say I left with 15 then I bought 5 ice creams that cost 3 dollars each which the product of those is 15 so 0.
