Fan & medal... Ball 2, with a mass of 30kg, is moving to the left at 10 m/s. With what velocity should Ball 1, with a mass of 10kg, move to the right and collide with 2, so that Ball 1 rebounds with a velocity of 30 m/s, and Ball 2 with velocity of 10 m/s, after the collision? Assume the collision to be perfectly elastic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please explain this to me, I know the formula is "m1v1(initial) +m2v2(initial) = m1v1(final) +m2v2(final)"

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

alright, you do not need that calculation

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

you must calculate th momentum of all of the collisions, accept for the one without its velocity known

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

Do so, with mass x velocity = momentum

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

try to calculate them, I will see if you get it right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so 30 X 10?

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

yes

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

so 300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok then what? O_o

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

next, 10*30 again, which is 300, and 30*10, which is also 300

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

alright, after the event of collision, we have 2 momentums calculated. add them together

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

then, minus off the leftover momentum from before the crash

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

just follow what i wrote please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is the two 300 the momentum?

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so just add them two together to get 600?

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

yes. now minus off the momentum from before the crash.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

that gives you:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I get the momentum before the crash? It does not give me that..

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

you have the momentum of ball 2, from the calculations. that is all you need

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh you mean the 10 m/s?

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

yes. multiply that by the ball's velocity to obtain the momentum of ball 2, which is 300

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

so 600-300= what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

300

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

exactly! now to divide the momentum of ball 1 by its mass to get what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

300 is not the answer though, or at least I don't think it is... ._.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh so 30...

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

the velocity of ball 1 is 30m/s right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, Ball 2 has a mass of 30, and Ball 1 has a mass of 10. So the answer is 30?

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

yep

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

well, the teacher wont accept just 30

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

you would have to say 30m/s to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

well, there you go.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thnxs, this is a ton of help! :) Also, I'm one of the biggest DBZ fans.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

I love parodies too

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

like team 4 star XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TFS 4 life!!!

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

and Dragon z ball p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Muffin button.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

LOOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Po Po is the best in them lol.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

LAST TIME ON DRAGON Z BALL P: VIRGINIA ACTED THE MICKEY SO NOW GUKO AND KERKRISTEN STUART MUST FIGHT. i hope they dont hit each other tooo hard...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have not seen episode 43 yet, it came out the other day. I'ma go watch it once I finish this portfolio.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

lol

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

I didnt reach that far yet

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

Krillin K.O. count

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have seen all the others, I have watched them since they first came out lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Love the K.O. counter.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

how far is it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure, its been a while since I have seen one.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

But krillin died, so didnt it stop?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Death is only temporary. In DBZ at least.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

Lol I forgot XD but I want you to watch dragon z ball p, an epic oney cartoon parady

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't heard of the epic oney cartoon parody before. I love the real DBZ and TFS parody's though.

OpenStudy (dbzfan836):

They only made 2 episides, but they are hilarious
