Find the Domain and Range of the function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=\frac{ x+3x^2 }{ x^2-x-2 }\]

OpenStudy (aum):

Domain: Denominator cannot be zero. Factor the denominator and find x values that would make denominator zero. The domain can be any real number except those values that makes the denominator zero.

To find the range, are you allowed to use a graphing calculator? If not there is a long-winded way to find the range.
