MEDAL! How did the trans-Atlantic slave trade affect West African peoples who were not enslaved? West African peoples prospered as they traded for new goods and saw improved health as a result of new food crops. West African culture deteriorated as European peoples forced citizens to adopt new ways of life. West African peoples' diets suffered as European peoples began colonizing their land and taking the harvests. West African populations were severely depleted as a result of the loss of its citizens to slavery.
