Compare and contrast these four functions using complete sentences. Focus on the slope and y-intercept first, and then on any additional properties of each function.

Th first thing to do is to find the slope of each, which will be easy except for maybe the last one, because you have to write the expression yourself. The slope of f(x) and j(x) is 4, and the slope of h(x) and g(x) is -4.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Do you know how to use points to find the equation and thus the y intercept?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The only one where the y intercept is given to you without any figuring or math on your part is h(x) and it tells you that the y intercept is 3.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

After you write the equation for j(x), you will see that that y intercept is also 3. The eqution for j(x) is y = 3 + 4x, x being the number of years that goes by. He buys 4 hats every year, and he starts with 3, so y equals the number of hats he buys per year, 4, times the number of years in which he is buying hats, plus the 3 he started with.
