What is the area of the circumference of a basketball hoop’s rim that is 18 inches in diameter? I multiplied 3.14 x 18 and got 56.52 but it not the right answer. can someone help me?

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

You multiply the \(radius\) by pi to get the circumference :)

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

|dw:1409446398928:dw| radius

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

|dw:1409446452305:dw| diameter

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

So \(\large 18\times 0.5=~~radius\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so I got 28.26

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

C≈56.55

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

And the equation for the area is simply \(A=πr2\)

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

\(A=\pi r2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answers I can choose from on my homework is 32.14 inches 28.26 inches 28.12 inches 15.69 inches Since diameter is double the size of radius I divided 18 by2 and got 9 and then I multiplied 3.14 times 9 and got 28.26

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

That's only the circumference though... You asked for the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That just what my homework asked but thank you for your help :)
