crops were awesome but there were soooooooooooooooo much fish to catch any season of the year unlike crops

a famous scholar once said its easier to transport goods across the world by sea than to the next town by cart

pretty much civilisations were formed on the sea / some type of water

thus originated fishing, dock markets, bartering between distant lands etc etc
