Polynomial Equation: Write a polynomial that describes the area of the shaded figure. Show the steps mathematically and explain each step in words. The shaded figure is the rectangle in grey minus the white rectangle. I can solve the polynomial, I just don't know how to set up the equation Would it be something like: (14y – 5)^2 + 6y^2 – 3y^2 – (3y + 5)^2

I would find the area of the large rectangle (length * width) and then subtract out the area of the small rectangle (length * width).

(14y - 5)(6y) would be the area of the large rectangle.
