write the equation of the line parallel to x=-16 and passes through the point (9 -10

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The line x = -16 looks like this:|dw:1409520642019:dw|so in order to write the equation of the line parallel to that throught the point (9, -10), go to (9, -10) and draw the parallel line. Like this:

OpenStudy (imstuck):

|dw:1409520734703:dw|

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The equation for that line is x = 9. You completely discount the y coordinate because this is a vertical line. It has no slope...well actually the slope is undefined. But the equation is x = 9.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

It could have gone through the point (9, -1) or (9, 15), or (9, 2000) and it would still have the equation x = 9.
