how do I find the solution to -2x-4y=1 and 12y=-6x-3

OpenStudy (babalooo):

you have 2 equations with 2 unknown variables. take one equation and put it in terms of 1 unknown variable like so 2x=-4y-1 solve for x. now you should have an equation for x right. now substitute the x in 12y=-6x-3 with the equation you solved earlier and you should have an equation with only one variable (in this case y) solve for y. once you get a value for y. sub it back into one of the equations in the problem to get x value.
