5p-14=8p+4 solve for p, show your wok help please

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Algebra, oh how I love Algebra ;3

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

\[5p - 14 = 8p + 4\]

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Add 14 to both sides, you get \[5p = 8p + 18\]

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now we have to isolate the variable and get p on one side of the equation

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Subtract -8 from both sides, you get \[-3p = 18\]

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

I meant: Subtract -8p from both sides, you get| Always remember your variables!

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now we must get p alone. You do this by doing the opposite operation in which p is in. -3p is basically -3 * p, or multiplication. So we do the opposite which is division. Divide -3 from both sides, you get p = -6

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Is that one of your answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, thanks !

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

No problem :)
