OpenStudy (dragonborn):

A car travels a distance of 250 miles, 700 miles and 325 miles at the rate of 50 miles/hr, 35 miles/hr and 13 miles/hr respectively.Find the average speed of the car in miles/hr.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the total distance travelled is \(250+700+325\) find the total time it took, then divide distance by time to get the average rate

OpenStudy (dragonborn):

Im confused, do i add the miles per hour together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to compute the time separately for each one for example, if you travel 250 miles at 50 mph it takes 5 hours to do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distance is rate times time, time is distance divided by rate, and \(250\div 50=5\) but you can do it more or less in your head so it took 5 hours to go the first 250 miles compute how long it took to go the next 700 miles, again by division

OpenStudy (dragonborn):

ok, its all coming back to me now, habvvent done this in like 4 years >_< thanks

OpenStudy (dragonborn):

havent*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can check your answer if you like, but you can do it i am sure

OpenStudy (dragonborn):

i can, but i ran out of time O.O

OpenStudy (dragonborn):

didnt know it was timed >_>
