Hello, I need help with age standardization. I have data and I have to calculate Crude rate and Age standardized rates (by European and World population) per the population of 100 000. I've calculated Crude rates as (number of observed cases in age group)*100000/(total population of the same age group). For example, I have to calculate ASR-W for age group 25-64 and I found that this is age distribution, which means that there are 45000 people in world standardized population. In my data, number of observed cases in group 25-64 is 7016, total number in that group is 4071186. Can anyon

How did you standardize the ages, just curious?

Not ages. Data (number of deaths) are divided in age groups. When you want to compare two populations that doesn't have the same distribution, you standardize them so you can compare them later. For standardization, we use European and World standard population given in the table that I attached. How do we standardize? Using these formulas: \[ASR_{for\ the\ given\ age\ group}=\frac{CR_{for\ the\ given\ age\ group}}{100000} \dot\ (standard\ population\ \ IN\ the\ given\ age\ group)\] where \[CR=\frac{number\ of\ deaths\ In\ the\ given\ age\ group}{population\ In\ the\ given\ age\ group} \dot\ 100000\]. ASR is age adjusted standard rate, and CR is Crude rate. These formulas are for mortality, but they are analogous for incidence.
