How to solve this word problem: A college book store marks up the price that it pays the publisher for a book by 35%. If the selling book is $92, how much did the bookstore pay for this book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do it like this. I take 1 (for 100%) and subtract .35 That leaves us with .65, so I do 92*.65 which gives us the price they bought the book for.

alternatively, we could do 92*.35, which gives us 32.2. Then 92-32.2=the price they bought the book for.
