Solve (x-4)^2=5 please helpppppp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of it more of like (x-4)(x-4)=5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-8x+16 = 5 x^2-8x+11 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use quadratic formula or factor

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

@juliannescriv , in this case you dont need to use quadratic formula its already in "completing the square" form, simply sqrt both sides --> x-4 = sqrt5 --> x = 4 +- sqrt5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks a lot so the answer is x=4+-sqrt5

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yeah
