What I did was find the Least Common Denominator 
to make it easier this is what I got 
3/8  ?  1/3
3/3 x 3/8  ? 1/3 x 8/8
9/24 > 8/24 

Can you do it this way?

Correct. You can do it that way. It's acctualy a much easier way in my opnion. Sorta like a shortcut. (atleast for me)
