3x - 7 = 5x + 19

@Squirrels

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I already attempted it on my own but didn't get it right

OpenStudy (squirrels):

Okay so we want to get isolate x by getting it to one side like the last time. Lets start by adding 7 to both sides of the equation. \[3x=5x+26\]

OpenStudy (squirrels):

See how there are 2 "x variables"? Because of that we can subtract 5x to both sides. Go ahead and try that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x = 26?

OpenStudy (squirrels):

-2x=26 ;-) Ok what do we do now? :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide each side by -2?

OpenStudy (squirrels):

Yeaahhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is 13 right because my calculate said -2 divided by 26 is -0.07

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I divided wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-13?

OpenStudy (squirrels):

Oh yea my bad. Its -13. Good eye!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!
