In a logarithmic scale, like in pH, one integer corresponds to a 10-fold increase, so 1000 is a 3 integer increase or decrease. Will increasing \([H^+]\) lower or raise the pH?

In other words, will the pH be 5+3 = 8 or 5-3=2?
