Is the question asking which one would cause a bigger problem or if both where removed? If it where both then there would be no one making and selling the products, also meaning no one could buy them eliminating the consumers. BUT if no one bought anything, there would be no producers, because they would be waiting all their money. They would be making new products they made no money on. So one can't exists without the other.

It really depends on what happens after they both get eliminated. If no one created new products/ideas, our technology and medical science would not evolve. Causing the human race's self evolution to come to a halt. We would eventually start to go extinct, because we would not be able to cure any new illnesses that comes our way. BUT if something replaced the producer and consumer roles, then we would be fine. Like if everyone, no matter what job, got the same thing, we would be fine. If that happened people would really not care anymore, they would want to get the easiest jobs available because there would be no reason to try to get a better/harder job.

So anyway you look at it, it would cause MAJOR problems in our current civilization if the producer/consumers dispersed.

@connexus.com You've completely misinterpreted the question. Your views are also very naive and your arguments are lacking.

In regards to the original question, the answer is producers. Producers (e.g. plants) provide the energy from which all consumers depend on. Producers can live on without the consumers, but consumers cannot live on without producers.
