help please! how did the Civil War influence the role of government in the U.S?
The civil war affects us by no longer owning slaves and allowing us to be one huge land and not many separate states. It also opened the way for the government to have more power. We don't have slavery or were we are treated different NO we are all treated the same. All because of the Civil War. This is also a external conflict because of the skin color and how the slaves could be beaten. The only good thing that came out of that war was the freeing of the slaves. Everything else was negative. The government became bigger and stronger.Today it is a government of unlimited powers. I have no hatred for union soldiers. But the government had no right to force the south back into the union. Once that happened it was no longer a union. The government began referring to it as a nation because they knew they couldn't call it the union anymore. Some southern citizens had their voting rights taken away for awhile. I know there was wrong on both sides. The south had slavery and the government wanted more control. The war wasn't only about slavery. When they first made the U.S. officials from states asked if they could leave the union if they wanted to later and they were told yes.
