with a density of only 534 kg/m^3 lithium has the lowest density of any metallic element. suppose a block of lithium floats on a surface of gasoline, which has a density of 675 kg/m^3. if 5.93*x10^-4 m^3 of gasoline is displaced by the lithium what is the mass and volume of the lithium block

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Hm assuming that the block floats just at the surface of the gasoline, the volume displaced would be the volume of the block - if this is not the case (if the block is only partially submerged) then you'd have to use buoyancy and other calculations |dw:1409867426421:dw| The mass can be found with: \(\sf density=\dfrac{mass}{volume }\)
