WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF SECTIONALISM

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

Sectionalism is the promotion of the interests of one segment of the population above the best interests of the entire population. Sectionalism can drive the politics of particular sections of the country, or of a particular state or city. Sectionalism can also cause divisive friction among the population within a state, especially when the state is dominated by one or more very large cities, such as New York, Illinois or California. In any instance where there are interests that focus on a particular area or community, sectionalism can and often does occur.
