Combine like terms. 8x + 20 = 180 8x = 160 x = 20 20(2) + 3 = 43 20(3) - 17 = 43 20(3) + 34 = 94

If you still don't understand: You are trying to get the angles to equal 180 degrees. In order to do this you must add all the terms together and set them equal to 180. Variables of all the angles: 2x + 3x + 3x = 8x. Constants of all the angles: 3 - 17 + 34 = 20 So, 8x + 20 = 180 degrees. Subtract 20 from both sides. 8x = 160 x = 20 NOW, you must find the actual degrees of each angle by plugging in what they are all equal to, which is x = 20.
