Z-scores... help?
Just need explaining please...
Here are the ideas: 1) you have a "bell-shaped curve" 2) the peak of the curve is the *mean* 3) we measure distance away from the mean in *standard deviations* (called a z score)
Thank you @phi Is there a formula to use for this problem I attached? Since I have mean and standard deviation...
yes, but try to use "common sense" because you will remember this better. For example, if a standard deviation is 8.3 cm, and you want 2 of them, how many cm do you want? any idea ?
16.6 cm
yes. In your problem standard deviation is 8.3 cm, and you want 2.75 of them. How many cm is that ?
22.825 cm or 23 cm
yes. I would use all the decimals until the very end before rounding. next, they want +2.75 standard deviations. plus means "above" (or bigger than) the mean (negative would be below or smaller than the mean) so you want 22.825 cm more than the mean (which is 60.7 cm)
83.525...so minimum height would be 84? C
yes, looks good
So find standard deviation, then multiply by your given...to find its distance from mean and use that with your mean...ah I understand much better now. :) Thank you!!
