They are organic molecules, both are made of primarily carbon, hydrogen; they can used a sources of metabolic energy in oxidative processes by organisms, etc

They are alike b/c the function of both the carbohydrates and lipids are to make energy however lipids make long term energy while carbohydrates make short term energy.
