Which statements are true? Choose all answers that are correct a. 7 + (–10) < –13 + 17 b. 22 + (–13) > 18 + (–7) c. –18 + 24 = –23 + 17 d. –11 + (–8) > 4 + (–26)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! I'd suggest simplifying each side of each equation :) For example, for the first one, what's 7 + (-10) ?

OpenStudy (chrisbart):

-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great! And how about -13 + 17?

OpenStudy (chrisbart):

30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite! Don't forget the minus sign in front of the 13!

OpenStudy (chrisbart):

oops 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's it! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we can re-write the first statement: a. -3 < 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now see if you can do the same thing for the second statement :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(And by the way, is the first statement true?)

OpenStudy (chrisbart):

ok and yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great :)
