whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Do the following calculations, and write the answers in scientific notation: 0.000 312 / 486 Is what I have for the first step correct? I have: 3.12 x 10^6 / 486

10^ -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well write it out in scientific notation first and remember when you divide exponents you subtract :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

eh! supposed to be negative power not positive

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

You didn't write the numerator correctly in scientific notation. A multiply of 10^6 mean you would have to move the decimal place to the right 6 times. |dw:1410048586131:dw| You have 3.12, since it's between 1 and 10. But we moved the decimal to the right 4 places. So, your numerator should look like this: 3.12 * 10^(-4)
