Love, ambition, greed, religious faith—these are some of the human emotions that motivate characters and help explain their personalities and behavior. Choose a character who came alive for you in your readings so far this year. Write an essay in which you examine that character’s personality and motivation and show what the character’s behavior and attitudes reveal about human nature. Begin with an introductory paragraph that captures your reader’s attention and includes a thesis statement that states your view of the character.

. Then, in the body of your essay, show how details in the work convey the character’s personality and motives. End with a concluding paragraph that sums up your main ideas about the character. I choose Mrs. Mallard from the story of an hour.

Do you have a link to your story that we could read? Or how about you summarize your readings for me? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I actually read a summary of this before, so I think I have an idea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, let's use Mrs.Mallard, perfect. Now, is there a paragraph limit?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean minimum, not limit; I'm sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I just know its suppose to be in essay form, the way I take it from this paragraph that I just read

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, now how many emotions would you say Mrs.Mallard demonstrated in the story?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please ping me when you're back. @kaykayrae89

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not really sure how many emotions, I know she seems sad, then happy, then pretty much dead lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe grief and abandonment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about this? [Introduction] [Paragraph 1 - Happiness] --Details [Paragraph 2 - Sadness] --Details [Paragraph 3 - What does the Character's Behaviour reveal about Human Nature?] --Details [End with a concluding paragraph that sums up your main ideas about the character. I choose Mrs. Mallard from the story of an hour.]
