Say the equations were:
2x+4y = 8
3x+y = 14

Usually, you can do something like. "x is the number of fruit basket A. y is the number of fruit basket B. In each package a, there are 2 apples and 3 oranges. In each package b, there are 4 apples and 1 orange. If you want exactly 8 apples and 14 oranges, how many of each type of basket do you want?"

Apples make up the top equation, and oranges make up the bottom equation.
