Years. Population 1848 = 1000 1850 = 3500 New York 1850 = 3500 1870 =15300 Which one grew faster and at what rate ? Are both rates linear? Please show work Medal rewarded

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

First one grew at a rate of 2500 every two years, or 1250 every year.

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

Second one grew at a rate of 11800 every twenty years, or 1180 every two years.

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

Right away, you can tell that the first one grew faster at a rate of \(1000\div 1250=.8=80\)%

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

I just did that backwards, geez. 1250\div1000=1.25=125%=25%\textsf{ growth rate}\)

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

Grr.. I hate typing out \(\LaTeX\) Yes, both rates are linear.
