What am I doing wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you have used the wrong ratio... its not tan its sin sin(53) = a/10

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

and in both cases the side you are finding must be shorter than the hypotenuse.. its a good checking tool.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\cos(53)=\frac{b}{10}\iff b=10\cos(53)\] you solved the proportion incorrectly

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

in the cos ratio... its correct to a point cos(53) = b/10 so 10 * cos(53) = b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the answer be 6? @campbell_st

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

is that for a or b...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B, sorry.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yes that's correct.
