what is the difference beteen iteration and recurtion

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Iteration is if you step through something so many times in a row. For example: do this command for every item in this array. Recursion is if you have something that reuses itself. For example: a program that factors a number by dividing it by primes but once it finds one it passes a list of primes and a partially factored number to itself until the final call where it can't do any more and returns all the factors.
