What is the main effect of having Oona tell the story of Kinoos before letting Negore explain himself? It allows the character of Negore to save face with the reader. It builds interest in the character of Sun-ne, his sister's daughter. It builds tension with regard to past events in Negore's story. It further interests the reader in the character of Oona's father.
