PCSK9, a protease that regulates the level of LDL receptors, is a new target for lowering circulating levels of LDL. Excess PCSK9 leads to a decrease in LDL receptor levels. Which one of the following tools would you use in mice to model a potential therapy for humans with familial hypercholesterolemia?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a)RNAi targeting PCSK9 in mice b)add an extra copy of the PCSK9 gene fused to the GFP coding sequence c)add an extra copy of the gene encoding PCSK9 d)a microarray comparing mRNA levels in a mouse heterozygous for a loss-of-function PCSK9 allele to the wild-type mouse e)a SNP chip using a mouse heterozygous for a loss-of-function PCSK9 allele

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know its c or d, not so sure. @nincompoop can you help?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

why do you want to pick between c or d only?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

we already know that PCSK9 is already present, what would adding a copy do? we need to inhibit it to test by the way, there is a huge relationship between HDL and LDL and their production it is something you might want to look at

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I guess I just helped you pick D laughing out loud

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks @nincompoop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have some other questions, would you mind helping? @nincompoop

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

if I can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D wasnt the right answer

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I know, it wasn't because you were only picking between C and D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what was it?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

LAUGHING OUT LOUD read the options carefully and their functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i missed that question :(

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

you want to pick between C and D so I helped you which one would likely help between the two
