What kind of things can you study under a light microscope?

Nearly all prokaryotes and all eukaryotes (though you might have to look at pieces of eukaryotes). There are a few bacteria that are small enough that you might not be able to see them or see very few of the individuals on the slide. The very smallest bacteria can literally have light never hit them because the are smaller than the wavelength.
