Which statement is true? A. |–8|< |8| B. |–2| > 1 C. |–7| = –7 D. |12| > |–15|

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

|-8| = 8 |-2| = 2 |-7|=7 |12| = 12 |-15| = 15

Okay...But which one is correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

absolute value means the value of the number regardless of sign so |-8| = 8. so only |–2| > 1 is correct because it states that 2 > 1. A states that 8 < 8 (obviously false). C states that 7 = -7, and D states that 12 > 15.
