Please help I know it's simple math but im suck on it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5-3 (4+68)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I attached a file

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@summersun13 I attached a file so you can see how it's written

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, i have the answer but im figuring out how to explain it.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 9/5 but i know it's wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright so what i did first is i make each individual fraction have the same denominator (i chose 10 as mine because i found it easier but any common denominator you can multiply to will simplify to the same answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I did that and made them 4/10 and 5/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now i had (4/10 + 5/10) / (4/10 - 1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right, and now, solve for your numerator and your denominator as is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 9/10 over -1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9/-5 is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, thats not. what you should have gotten when you solved is (9/10)/(-1/10) do you see how i got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than 90/-10 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and from there multiply 9/10 by the reciprocal of your denominator, so (-10/1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good, now simplify that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did you put the negative - with 10 it's with 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 9/-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because its a fraction and when theres a negative sign it doesnt matter much where you put it because the overall fraction will reflect that sign. so your answer is correct but even more simply, you can write -9 as your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg thank you so much i have 3 more practice problems can I do them and send them to you and see if I got it right please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do as much as you can and if you get stuck im here to help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for this one i got 679/7 is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TechnoSoul

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is right but you can actually divide that and get your final answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

97/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can divide 679 by 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or just 97

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

97 is your final answer to that problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

37/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TechnoSoul

OpenStudy (anonymous):

37/-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your answer is correct, only it should be negative because remember your denominator will be a negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one more i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2 as my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Opps wrong one this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright and what did you get for it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

195/-105

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is what right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thats right, but you can simplify that too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13/-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or -13/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

either work because remember the negative is about the fraction as a whole

OpenStudy (anonymous):

most teachers though, will prefer your negative out in front of your fraction like how you had the -13/7
