What was the North's initial strategy in the Civil War? metal
i think i found your answer
The North sought to invade Virginia and take the Confederate capital. The North followed a strategy of total war, making the south "howl." A total naval blockade of southern ports was supposed to bring the South back in the Union. Scott's "great snake" would blockade the South's ports and control the Mississippi River.
