Well, in early American colonies, there were many Puritans and religious folks who wrote in journals and diaries everyday. Their writings were based on the Bible, which influenced them a lot, and they tried living a life to become an 'elect', or chosen one to go to Heaven. They also connected most of their life to Biblical stories. As for Native Americans... many wrote bad stories depicting them as savages in stories. Since the colonists thought of the New World as 'Hell' and Native Americans as 'devils', the Americans were always seen as brutal people despite the fact that they always tried to help the settlers or were ravaged by the colonists. As for persuasive writings; facts, counter argument, evidence/support, and confidence!
