In marigolds, what does lizabeth mean at the end when she says that she too has planted marigolds?What do you think the marigolds come to mean in the story?

I remember reading "Marigolds" and I believe that she planted the marigolds to symbolize the regret Lizabeth had for tearing them out. As she reflects upon the memory she realizes how bad she felt and how important and valuable (to her personally) the marigolds were.
