There are many different elements involving the gothic setting of a story. An atmosphere of fear enhanced by the unknown would be a great example. it is important that the setting go gothic work should be symbolic of the decline of something that was once good, beautiful or thriving.

I don't think this would work. The question wants you to create your OWN gothic setting that can be interpreted as symbolic. Such as "a dark cabin in the woods, home to a..." well, whatever monster you want. It doesn't even have to be a monster.

It's just, I don't think it's asking for a description of what gothic settings are, but for your to write your own gothic scene.
