Please explain this to me. On a race track the speed for the first lap is 30 mph. What must be the average speed for a second one mile lap in order to have an average speed of 60 mph for the two laps (miles)?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

I guess it would be 90 mph. \[\frac{ 30 mph + 90 mph }{ 2 } = 60 mph\]

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Are you still having trouble about this @nadialabish94 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont undersand where the 90 comes from

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

It was just a hunch on my part, here's how you normally do it : (30+x)/2 = 60 Solve for x to get your answer.

okay thanks :)
