A cone of radius 3 cm and slant height 6cm is cut into four identical pieces. Calculate the total surface area of the four pieces.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the radius is 3cm, the circumference is 2*pi*3. Since the slant height is 6, the flatten surface would be part of a circle with a circumference of 2*pi*6. Since this number is exactly twice the circumference of the base circle, the flatten surface with be exactly a semicircle, and its area would be (pi*6^2)/2. And since you are dividing that area into 4 pieces, each piece will be 1/4 of that, or: (pi*6^2)/8=14.137...
