How did the economic system of New England differ from the Middle region? It relied heavily on cash crops, while the Middle region relied on manufacturing. It was mostly based on trade, whereas the Middle region was based on skilled trades. It was made up of mostly ironworks, while the Middle region was made up of shipbuilding. It was based on a workforce of family members, whereas the Middle region was based on slavery.
